Optimising and Strengthening Landing Pages for SEO Techniques

Posted in 1/6/10

A landing page is the page that users are brought to when they have clicked on an Ad or link for your site. These links can come about organically from other people or could be from part of your own SEO or Adwords campaign. What is important is that the landing page is relevant and useful based on the links and ads leading to it. For an ecommerce site it is vital that the page provides products or information relevant to what the user was led to expect when clicking on the link.

In the case of a pay-per-click campaign it is most important that the page is relevant. If the landing page does not entice your potential buyers then you are wasting money on a pointless campaign. It is important to remember that it is not the ad, but the landing page which brings in the sale. Organic links, while beneficial are negligible as they are out of your control. While links generated from articles should always be tailored correctly to the page they are leading to.

What make ads and linked articles relevant are their keywords. In the case of an ad the user performs a search via a search engine and if your ad contains relevant keywords then it will appear in the users search. The relevance of the keywords determines the cost of the pay-per-click. Articles work similarly with the omission of the cost and won’t appear at the top of the search like ads will.

However before your ads and articles are up and running you have to ensure that your landing page is correctly optimised. In order for the keywords used to be truly relevant to your site you should ensure that the keywords used are contained within the page body and header. You must also ensure that the page is well organised and provides useful information on the product as well as an option to buy.

The critical point is that the user is not simply browsing your page aimlessly. They have reached your site due to a specific search they have made. They know what they want so make the process of getting from the landing page to the order confirmation as quick and user-friendly as possible. Website designer are well aware of the importance of tailoring landing pages to assist with such SEO methods.

If you optimise your website, links and adverts properly then you will find creating future campaigns a much easier process. Furthermore you will find that you can generate a great deal more revenue.

Google Offers Tool for Speeding Web Pages

Posted in 7/29/09

Last month Google said that it is going to launch an initiative which would help webmasters to make the web faster. This initiative is an extension of the new way of thinking that Google has thought of.

Google Offers Tool for Speeding Web PagesAs of now it has shared a new tool called Page Speed, which would show how webmasters could increase the speed of pages on the sites. This tool is actually a Firefox/Firebug add-on which can be used for evaluation of web page performance and in return provides suggestions for improvement.

This tool will carry out the tests on server’s site configuration and front end codes. These test rates your site against the set of best practices proven to enhance the web page performance. So whenever you run Page Speed on site’s pages you would be provided with a set of scores for each page as well as suggestions on how to improve performance.

It is such a great tool that webmasters should use so that they can make their site speed faster, attracting more visitors engaged in your site, reduce the bandwidth and in turn improve the hosting costs.

Effective Link Building Tips-Key To SUCCESS

Posted in 7/2/09
by Kishore

This collection of link building tips are likely to guarantee that you will receive free links from already established websites. This differs from content-oriented development strategies which hope to gradually attract natural editorial links.

These link building tips focus more on targeted link placement or link insertion , whereby you are likely to control the specific anchor text used. Some of them include agreements made with others and others involve one-way action on your part.

CASE # 1
  1. Submit your site to Web Directories. This is a pretty monotonous process that can get you several hundred backlinks if you have the time. An alternative would be to hire a manual directory submitter. Here's a list of web directories you can use. You can also find some blog directories here.

  2. Submit Press Releases to PR Sites . A basic press release about your website's launch can be released to several PR websites, who will distribute it to various online news outlets. A good way to get a free link. I recommend using PRWeb and PRLeap .

  3. Reciprocal Links with Similar Websites. Its important to pick sites that are of high relevance so you'll not only get links but traffic. Reciprocal linking can be useful from the beginning but don't overdo it. You can find link partners by emailing them directly or searching through webmaster forums .

  4. Web 2.0 Pages A Squidoo lens is fairly easy to create. It only takes around 15 minutes to set up one fully and you'll be able to insert a bunch of anchor text links to your website along with your feed content. Hubpages is another similar site you can use.

  5. Article Submissions. Create a short article on your niche topic and submit it to article directories for a backlink and some traffic. You might get more links if your article is picked up and published on other websites. Here is a list of article directories , sorted by Alexa and PageRank.

  6. Social Media Profiles . There a whole bunch of social websites online which allow you to insert a link to your website on the profile page. Sign up for some of them, preferably using a username and avatar that brands your business or you as a person. This might come in useful when you decide to promote your site via the social website in the future. Ex: Twitter , FaceBook

  7. Social Bookmarking/Voting Websites. Certain social voting websites like Netscape or Digg are often crawled by search engines and their links do help to get a website indexed. 3spots has the biggest list of social voting and bookmarking websites I've seen so far.

CASE # 2
  1. Forum Signatures . Sign up for some forums in your niche and start contributing to ongoing discussions. Insert a link to the homepage or some inner pages of your site

  2. Create a Tool, Theme or Widget . Pay a designer to come up with an add-on application or template that is related to a specific social network, popular website or platform. Include a credit link that points back to your designated website.

  3. Blogs on Other Blog Platforms . Use existing blogs you have on other blog networks. Or set up different versions of your blog on different blog networks like WordPress.com, Blogger and Xanga. Link to specific webpages on your website.

  4. Comment on Other Blogs. Start commenting on relevant and popular sites in your niche. Don't just spam for links but focus on building a relationship with other bloggers as well. Write a relevant comment and try to avoid using keyword names or signature links.

  5. Guest posting on other blogs. Like article and press releases, this one involves having readily available content you can send out to certain blogs in your niche. This is great for getting relevant links and traffic.

  6. Hold Contests . Some websites often offer contests in a bid to attract anchor text links from bloggers. An example is this iPhone giveaway on Gary Lee's site. Contests allow you to determine the specific anchor text but its possible that too many links using the designated keyword may harm your domain instead.

  7. Collaborative Projects . You may need to develop an article specifically for a writing project, blog carnival or meme but it will usually get you a couple of backlinks, depending on the number and generosity of the participants involved.

  8. Offer your Expertise . This will apply if you have a specific skill set such as web design, copywriting, translation or SEO. Write to an established website and offer to revamp/optimize their website in return for a mention or credit link on a webpage. This offers excellent branding, particularly if your offer is picked up by a website with a decent audience.

Basic Steps to get RANKED for the Targetted Keywords

Posted in 5/28/09
by Kishore

First of all, select the right targeted keywords for your web page. Please don’t do the mistake of selecting the most popular keywords. Instead you can use Google’s keyword suggestion tool to select the most appropriate variations considering both popularity as well as competition. During this process please make sure that keyword phrases should be related to your website content as without that the entire process will be of no use.

Before you start with Off-Page optimization like Building backlinks and generating traffic, you have to make sure that the keywords are placed in the right spot. No page will get ranked if you haven’t clearly indicated exactly what keyword’s the page should be ranked for.

The Basic Steps to get ranked for the Targeted Keywords are:

1) Keyword in the URL
2) Keyword in the title
3) Keyword in the only h1 tag
4) Keyword Usage in Body

1. Keyword in the URL

Just make sure that your URL is in the form www.example.com/keyword (.htm or .php or .aspx or whatever). Avoid URLs without the keyword eg www.example.com/products.htm?id=12. For the URL it is best to have only the keyword and no other junk.

2. Keyword in the title

It is also recommended to use the keyword in the page title, eg “Keyword (with some wording included) | Example.com”.  Do not repeat titles on all your pages, and do not dilute keywords by using the same keyword in all your titles. Every internal page should consists a Unique page title.

3. Keyword in the only h1 tag.

When you describe your Targetted Keyword, there should be a header above your description.  Just add h1 tags, eg h1 Targetted Keyword /h1. The title should also have some extra wording that is different from the title wording.

4. Keyword Usage in Body

Please make sure that the content that you posted is Keyword Rich.. Because Google Algorithms are more sensitive to pages that do not contain the keyword they’re getting links for. Do not spam the keyword though! Just use it a few times, naturally. (Keyword Desnity of 2%-6%)

So stop trying to implement all the hundreds of factors that could possibly help you rank higher. Unless you are done with these basic steps do not move on.

strategy a new site should adopt to boost link popularity. First of all let's expalin the meaning of link, link popularity and link exchange.

1. What is Link and Link Popularity?

The link (hyperlink, or Web link) is a connection from one web resource to another. Internet begins with the hyperlink and a person go from one page to another page by clicking link. Links are the buttons and underlined text on web pages that take you to other pages on click.

2. What is Link Popularity?

Link Popularity means how much you are known on the internet which can be measured how many sites or web pages linked to you. Link popularity is a measure of both the quantity and quality of sites that link to your site. Link Popularity is the number of quality hyperlinks pointed to your website.

3. What is Link Exchange?

In Link Exchange basically, we exchange links - you add my link to your website and I will add your link to mine. It is a barter system give link and in return get link .By exchanging links, with theme based sites or authority sites you can increase your websites link popularity and which will results into increase of your website search engine rankings.

4. What are new site link exchange problems?

For new sites it is quite difficult to get linked with other sites. Even the google takes the site for indexing if it has got few inbound links from other websites. Google says "The best way to ensure Google finds your site is for your page to be linked from lots of pages on other sites..."

In one of the reason for site not listed Google has explained:
"If we have not picked up your site and it has been several months, then it is likely that our spiders are not able to find your site. If you increase the links pointing to the page, Google will likely find your site in the future. "

It is clear that your site will not be listed on Google quickly. Search Engines usually takes news sites very fast if you are linked by other popular related web sites. New site will also not get reciprocal link from other sites because of non popularity or 0 PR (Google Page Rank).

The Discussion form is another media to get inbound links. Join the Message Board which is related to the theme of your site and if you are expert in your field you can reply the many threads. Be sure to include your URL in your signature and also anchor text to be linked with URL should be your site Keyword. If the message board allows it, you can even include a short promotional blurb about your site at the end of your posts. Even if you do not post try to add your url in profile and it is also an inbound link and is important if from your theme based Forum. Try to add your details i.e city, country name, interest and occupation in profile as it will make your theme based pages where all contents are related to you.

So if new site adopt the above method to increase link popularity they are sure to build good page rank in the beginning and latter on all higher page rank web sites will be ready to exchange link with you and will result into building of solid link popularity for your site. Sender Time Zone : New in Gmail Labs

Posted in 5/4/09
by Kishore

Gmail grows day by day and adding more features in Labs and make those features live that which are gaining the hearts of users. On April 8th 2009 night Gmail has released a new product in labs called "Sender Time Zone". This is a nice feature. Using this feature you can find what time in your contacts country.

Don't get confused. For example you have friends or clients world wide. For example you have received an important mail from client or friend. You would like to discuss about that issue immediately to him or her and wants get it resolved. If it is early morning to your client or friend, then it's so bad to disturb them in a deep sleep. So using this feature just simply have a look on time zone (as shown in the image) and then call him if it's the right time or else wait for few hours. (click on the Image to enlarge)

If you have all local friends then it won't much use for you, because yours and their time zone is same. For professionals and Global consultants have found this feature very useful who have global network and also interacting with them often.

But here is a problem again. If you are in India and your system has set to US timings then it may show your time wrong. So it would be better to set your system according to your time zone. Of course most of the people will set their pc time zone as per their time zone only, however i just want to make you aware of this.

What's India searching for online?

Posted in
by Kishore

In December 2007, for the first time in India, we released a list of most popular and fast rising searches, i.e. the Google Zeitgeist. But you don't need to wait till this December to know what was popular this year; we've just unveiled Google Trends and Google Hot Trends on Google India Labs, giving you a chance to find out what India is searching for on Google by the hour.

What's on our collective mind as we search for information? What's interesting to people right now? Hot Trends will tell you. At a glance, you'll see the huge variety of topics capturing our attention, from current events to sports to political issues to the latest Bollywood gossip. Hot Trends aren't the search terms people look for most often; those are pretty predictable, like [weather] or [games]. Instead, the Hot Trends algorithm analyzes millions of searches to find those that show an unusual and fairly sudden increase in popularity. The outcome is the Hot Trends list. Hot Trends is updated throughout the day, so check back often.

For example, the #1 Hot Trends result on January 9, 2008, was 'tata new car' because of the auto expo going on then. The associated web results and associated news search results give you more context and insight into why people were searching for 'tata new car'. You can see these results by changing the date range on the top left hand corner of the Hot Trends page. As you can see, 'tata new car' has a Hot Trend status of 'spicy' -- a measure of its popularity.

Together with Hot Trends, we also launched Google Trends for India. You can view search patterns and interest in their favorite topics. You can compare the popularity of multiple queries (e.g. different Bollywood stars) and see which cities and states search for them the most.

Looking ahead to what 'Valentines Day' might mean to us, keep checking out Hot Trends and Trends for insights into the mind of India

Google Launches “Chrome” Web Browser

Google Launches “Chrome” Web Browser

Google (GOOG) shares are rallying this morning after the company announced that today it is launching Chrome, its own Web browser, to compete with Mozilla’s Firefox, Apple (AAPL) Safari and Microsoft (MSFT) Internet Explorer. Google provides details about the new browser in, uh, a comic book.

According to Google’s blog post, the new browser will be open source, and launches today in 100 countries. The news comes just after the beta release of Internet Explorer 8.

The Street seems quite excited about the prospect of a Google browser.

“What took so long?” asks UBS analyst Benjamin Schachter in a research note on Chrome this morning. “The browser is a key piece of GOOG’s strategy as the company can build it to be compatible with its other apps and use user data to provider better targeted ads.” Schachter says he believes Google’s decision to launch a browser is based in part on concerns about Microsoft’s ability to control the user experience on the Web with IE, “and the potential that MSFT may get more aggressive with the browser as we get further away from the court rulings about the operating system.”

Schachter believes a Google browser “will enable improved access to data and user behavior without relying on Microsoft.” On the other hand, he also cautions that Google has announced a lot of things that have failed to catch on. “Before we get too excited, let’s see the product and GOOG’s ability to push it,” including pre-installation on new hardware devices.

George Askew, an analyst at Stifel Nicolaus contends that Chrome “is an important application launch that compliments Google Docs…and will further enable users to use applications that are independent of Microsoft software products.” He notes that the innovative features of the browser included a multi-threaded structure and greater security. “Google Chrome is partly a defensive move as as Microsoft is incorporating functionality in new browsers that may block the collection of ad targeting information,” he adds.

Lehman’s Doug Anmuth writes today that Chrome’s biggest benefit could come on mobile devices if Google bundles Chrome into its Android mobile platform and gains distribution on other devices. “We believe the simplicity and open-source nature of Chrome is well-suited to the mobile environment,” he writes. “Ultimately, we believe Chrome is part of Google’s overall cloud-based computing strategy as the browser morphs to become the platform of the next generation OS.”

Brian Pitz and Brian Fitzgerald, of Bank of America, assert in a note this morning that “this is the right strategy for GOOG as it attempts to further penetrate MSFT’s browser market share and control the user’s starting point to the Web.” They also assert that widespread adoption of the browser could reduce GOOG’s reliance on Mozilla and PC OEMs for distribution of the Google toolbar, lead to reduced traffic acquisition costs. They do note, however, that this puts them in direct competition with Mozilla’s Firefox, on which Google has been the default search engine.

GOOG today is up $14.44, or 3.1%, to $477.73.
